Hotel del Coronado, also known as The Del or Hotel Del, is one of the few surviving examples of the wooden Victorian beach resort. It sits on Coronado Beach which is normally ranked one of the Top Ten beaches in the world.  The Del is the second largest wooden structure in the United States and was the single largest resort hotel in the world when it opened in 1888.  The Del's Crown Room was considered an architectural achievement, built without any pillars and the wooden ceiling was installed using only pegs and glue.
